Infinity is Plural

Let us consider the number of times we, as individuals, have experienced failure to communicate. For my hypothetical interlocutor to be a successful purveyor of truth, he must ooze confidence, his internal dialogue must be affirming. Thoughts must come to words and words must come to meaning and purpose. Not only does he need to make some sort of sense , but it must contain concrete evidence of the scientific method being employed in the direction or pursuit of something.

I wont claim to be an expert of neuro-psychology or physiology so I will limit myself to describing my experience with the actual facts that unroll. Not only one meaning or one purpose but many. I am starting to sound like Robin Williams in Flubber.  Actually infinite quantities of each. The more we find the fewer we will need as we cannot possibly consume all the meaning and we certainly cannot attend to every purpose. Would it be a bad thing if we could but decided we were not going to make the effort?

Yeah, the meaning is dependent on the senses and we have to have experience of the substance and manifestations, the triggers and opportunities. Experience assures an opportunity our words will be the appropriate ones, and that we have considered proportion.

So when I hear mention of something as having value, either qualitative or numerical I must consider the infinity aspects in each. I like Einstein who talked about infinity how it is possible infinity is not just one thing. Infinitely can be many things but not infinite, we must retain our understanding of the meaning of infinite. So its meaning is limited to saying infinity is the property of existing in an infinite quantity. Can appear as intervals too. But what would happen if Infinity was not infinite. Like how would we know something was infinite; while we are waiting for the next instance in its sequence we don't hear anything so how are we going to know the next instance would not appear in a longer interval.

In this method a we take 50 years of journals and we start by numbering the pages. We want the total number. We save a copy as and we use this one as the working version. If we toss a page here or there we adjust the numbering we include #** before the previous page here and date of each discarded entry.

A good thing here is that the pages are in cursive or hand writing as we used to call it. The presentation improves somewhat towards the middle page, but the gems are scattered throughout, I would be insane to be pointing out to you how many gems I predict will surface. It is not real gems, it is colloquial phrasing for witticisms specific to the subject that will appear through out the book being the the person it is about, me.

accounting for privacy - it is better to have poor privacy than no privacy

Who am I to even mention privacy when I am spreading my innards on a page to post to the world. I am Kenth. I became Kenth when I purchased a copy of my birth certificate and saw it right there on the page, Kenth. I don’t know why I went the 55 years going by Kenneth as is what my parents called me. So funny that, family never caught on to the typo. It would have been a totally different youth for me to have been Kenth.

There is a little known fact about me.

I sit to write. I am writing for a completely contrived audience. If there was anybody here, I would be speaking. Only those who cannot speak would need to write in that scenario. What have I to say? What is on my mind that is made of words that I can express onto this page? As with most blabber there is a need to communicate but I have none and I only write for exercise.

Will there ever come a day when surveillance is so thorough that we cannot even be seen without the camera seeing into our brains and our intentions. What of it, as many would say, I have nothing to hide. Oh that’s it then, only need of privacy is when there is something to hide? And what is there to hide, right? Those cameras are only our government trying to protect us, right. Maybe not only the elected ones but those who govern the policies of the websites we visit.

So there is a (hypothetical) tribe that lives in the remote forests of northern Ontario who have this fear of cameras, but they are not important as a statistic actually negligible. Then there are the criminals which if you work backwards are the reason we needed cameras in the first place, but they avoid cameras. Are they even cameras? They record and feed systems which analyse what they term traffic. They can compare your face across any number of impressions they have stored and can plot your actions and your facial expression and make a prediction on the likelihood of your next move being one of the pat behaviours previously observed. It works like this in China: they can stop you before you say that F word.

The culture of surveillance is not caught on in North America quite so strongly. We need cameras when we cannot trust. So your saying you have nothing to hide is actually a preference question. Who gets to post a preference, those who have nothing to hide, or is it those who innocently go about their day not noticing they are being watched.

We wear clothes. We cover our bodies. We find the idea of cameras in washrooms repugnant. My insurance company informs me I can have a certain discount if I carry my phone with a special app that can let them know when I am driving erratically and this is supposed to be a compensation of sorts. Many do it. They have taken the study of our driving habits and turned it into a discount. But how badly do I need to drive before the insurance company decides I need higher premiums?

Back to the mykey thing, in the PS there are those who watch and those who are watched. There is around 300 thousand people in the public service of Canada. Every one of them has a my key. Nice. You can ask a Public servant to sign their emails with a digital signature they cannot refuse. Good start, a public servant cannot see their pay or apply for a job internal to the public service without that my key. At some point in your career you might be granted the privilege of reading other PS members performance data. When ever someone in the PS applies for a position in your organization you can access their stored performance data.

The theory goes that we have to give up some privacy to come out of our homes, if we have a home.  Some call the street their home. They can be seen on CTV cameras pushing their a shopping carts along the sidewalk, maybe just walking along talking to an imaginary friend.

Incompleteness

The Joy of Incompletness

An example of the great paintings of Bhaskar Krag I found on Tourism Vancouver pages. In speaking about " Detail of Starpop " he speaks of harmony in completeness. But I would like to take your mind off that for a second and suggest incompleteness is where it is at. I am not referring to a Godel theorem but to the artist who at the moment the decision is made that this is ready for press, has made an observation that the work is finished, or as complete as it is going to be. Has given in to reality and accepted a condition that may never be ideal. It is the letting go of what is for the hope of something better.

Maybe we are always doing that. We leave the table feeling satisfied and hope the living room will provide something else. We let go of one thing to pick up something else. If the situation becomes too static we feel stressed. We want change, meaning we want away from the over familiar.

In looking at the artists work I can see how that might have been a riot to create. Now I have an artist in front of me who is convinced the work is complete and ready to add value to my life were I to gaze upon it. But doesn't it seem a contradiction to buy art for the message of the artist?  The artist is already off onto something else. I am no closer to the creative spirit than prior to embarking on this purchasing cycle.
